Beginning next week, it seems the theme is all about LGBT Tourism! Starting on May 3rd, the global LGBT tourism industry will be descending upon St. Petersburg, FL for the IGLTA Convention, an incredible event bringing LGBT tourism professionals together from all around the world. We'll be there, and we look forward to connecting with many of you then... remember the hashtag is #IGLTA2017, and if you're really feeling into it, you can help make May 3-7, 2017 become an IGLTA #GayTravel hashtag takeover!!!
Then, on May 16th, as part of LGBT Week NYC, Community Marketing & Insights, in partnership with IGLTA, is bringing us the 3rd Annual Symposium on LGBT Tourism & Hospitality. Sponsored by the Argentina Tourism Office, Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB and Israel's Ministry of Tourism and held at Google's Autumn Tech Room in Chelsea, this symposium features morning and afternoon sessions, lunch and a reception, all on-site at Google for just $95 (donated to the IGLTA Foundation).

A feminist and a dude who feels awfully oppressed walk into a warehouse... It sounds like the beginning of a joke, but it’s actually the setup for Heineken’s “Worlds Apart” experiment. Created by Publicis London, it’s being billed as the antidote to Pepsi’s obtusely pop-candy take on our messy political reality.
Instead of positioning resistance as the new Coachella, Heineken takes a more measured approach. Ahead of the operation, it filmed six people stating strongly held beliefs—that men are oppressed, that the fight for feminism is far from over; that climate change is real or “piffle”; that transgender people need a voice; that “transgender” is nonsense semantics. Those unwitting candidates were then paired with their opposites and sent together into warehouses, where they found themselves with some instructions and a piece of furniture to build. Guess what it is?
My partner and I are avid travelers. As queer residents of New York City, we also often play tour guide for visiting family and friends when we’re not on the road. We encourage our guests to experience New York City beyond selfies in Times Square, including everything from outdoor movies on the historic Intrepid aircraft carrier, to New York Philharmonic concerts in the park, to food festivals in Brooklyn where you can enjoy a ramen burger and craft beer while viewing the Manhattan skyline.
We also recommend that our queer visitors pay homage to and get wild at some of the longest standing LGBTQ bars that have played an important role in serving our community, such as Stonewall, the site of the Stonewall Riots that sparked the modern LGBTQ rights movement in the U.S., and Henrietta Hudson, the oldest brick and mortar queer women’s bar in New York City. We are also acutely aware that tourist guides fail to educate our visitors about the rich, diverse LGBTQ culture that exists beyond the bar scene, such as Voguing Balls and the largest LGBTQ fashion shows hosted at world renowned museums.
