Gay Days at Disneyland Returns for Its 28th Year: Alyssa Edwards, Cheyenne Jackson & a Sea of Red Shirts, Sept 18–20

There are events the LGBTQ+ community attends, and there are events the community has built and kept alive year after year — Gay Days at Disneyland is firmly the second kind. For the twenty-eighth year running, thousands of LGBTQ+ park-hoppers will pull on their red shirts and take over the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, this time from Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20, 2026. It’s a tradition that has welcomed Californians and travelers from across the country since 1998, and it’s one we keep an eye on because it’s exactly the kind of authentic, community-rooted moment that travel and entertainment brands should be paying attention to.

A Tradition That Has Held Its Ground Since 1998

Gay Days at Disneyland began in 1998, and the Disneyland Resort has welcomed the annual celebration ever since — a continuity that’s worth noting at a moment when some of the country’s culture wars have aimed their sights squarely at both Disney and the LGBTQ+ community. The event has held its ground through all of it. That staying power is its own kind of statement, and it’s part of why the weekend means as much as it does to the people who return for it year after year.

A quick but important note for first-timers: Gay Days Anaheim is a “mix-in” with the park’s other weekend guests, not a Disney-sponsored event. Disney won’t have information about the unofficial happenings, so the official Gay Days website — gaydaysanaheim.com — is where the real schedule lives. The tradition is to wear a red shirt — it’s how everyone spots each other across the crowds and shows the community’s strength in numbers. Official tees are available through the Gay Days site.

Friday, September 18 — The Weekend Opens

Festivities begin Friday at noon with the opening of the Gay Days Welcome Center and Expo at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, tucked inside the hotel’s Trillium Room. At 7:00 PM, Cheyenne Jackson — fresh from starring opposite Maya Rudolph in Oh, Mary! on Broadway — takes the stage with his new act, “That Guy from That Thing.” Then at 9:00 PM, queer stand-up comedian Zach Noe Towers brings a night of comedy to his Gay Days debut.

Saturday, September 19 — Gay Day at Disneyland

Saturday is Gay Day at Disneyland itself, with a full day of activities and meet-ups scheduled throughout the park. The day builds toward a headline evening at House of Blues Anaheim, where RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars champion Alyssa Edwards brings a brand-new show, “Once Upon a Tongue Pop,” with performances at 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. At 10:00 PM, DJ Paulo Ramirez takes over for the weekend’s signature dance party, KINGDOM!

Sunday, September 20 — Gay Day at Disney California Adventure

Sunday moves the celebration over to Disney California Adventure, with more in-park activities throughout the day. At 11:00 AM, Gay Days Drag Queen Bingo arrives featuring Chico’s Angels star Kay Sedia. As the sun sets, the weekend closes out in style: Drag Race favorites Jackie Cox and Jan Sport bring their show “Y2J” at 6:00 PM, followed by Irene the Alien in “Diva Worship” at 8:00 PM.

It’s the In-Park Moments That Make It

The stage shows are the marquee draws, but longtime attendees will tell you the heart of Gay Days lives in the park itself. Both days feature gatherings you can only find over Gay Days weekend — a scavenger hunt, a gigantic group photo, a lesbian ice cream social, and group meet-ups at attractions all over the resort. There’s something built in for nearly everyone: families, teens, bears, couples, and Mouseketeers of every ilk. It’s a weekend designed less around a single headliner and more around the simple pleasure of experiencing a place you love surrounded by your community.

For Travelers: Where to Stay

Gay Days guests can take advantage of exclusive discounts at the three Disneyland Hotels, with rates better than what’s typically available the rest of the year. VIP ticket packages are on sale now, and the complete weekend schedule — along with discounted hotel rooms and park tickets — is posted at the official Gay Days site. Sponsors for the 2026 event include Delta, Howard Johnson Anaheim, and Radiant Health Center, with media support from The Fight, Pink Media, and EDGE Media Network.

Why This One Is Worth Watching

For brands thinking about how to reach the LGBTQ+ community authentically, Gay Days at Disneyland is a case study in what real, sustained engagement looks like. This isn’t a one-month campaign or a logo in rainbow colors — it’s a 28-year-old tradition that the community organizes, returns to, and protects, even when the broader climate gets complicated. LGBTQ+ travelers are a discerning and deeply loyal audience, and they remember the destinations, hotels, and brands that show up for moments like this one. Reaching them is broader yet targeted work, and it rewards the companies that meet the community where it already gathers.

If you’re a travel or entertainment brand thinking through how to show up for LGBTQ+ audiences this year, weekends like Gay Days are a reminder that the most powerful moments are the ones the community already loves. We’d love to compare notes.
